Nick Ni is ready to roll out his new Sushi Ai restaurant in downtown St. Catharines with a splash.

The space inside is worlds away from its previous incarnation as Niagara’s Best Beer.

The walls are glowing with the colours of neon fish. The centerpiece is a whimsical image of a carp created by Ni himself, through 50 hours of work.

This is his first business.

He couldn’t be more confident and his excitement is palpable.

“I really think I am coming in at the right time,” he said of his eatery at 75 St. Paul St., set to open this month.
